The news is just in: Bethany Hamilton is shredding on the waves with a baby bump. That’s right, she is expecting her second baby in March next year. Beth still does has not lost her touch and has been caught during one of her sessions in Hawaii, 6 months into her pregnancy!
Who’s Bethany Hamilton
Bethany Meilani Hamilton-Dirks is a legendary surfer who survived a shark attack in 2003. Even though her left arm was completely taken off by the shark attack, she clawed her way back into professional surfing and became the stuff of legends again being successful in surf competitions. Her story Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board an autobiography in 2004 was later developed into a movie Soul Surfer. These I highly recommend for any surfer on the mend and anyone who wants to get stoked on waves.

She met her husband Adam Dirks a Youth Minister in early 2012 and were later married on August 18,2013 in Kauai in front of 300 friends and family. She gave birth to her son, Tobias, in June 2015. The couple are pretty stoked to have their 2nd child announced in earlier in October.
Bethany Hamilton’s Competition Stats
Even after her shark attack she was able to successfully return to international professional surfing as soon as 2004 winning the NSSA Surf Competion. Here are her recent stats and placings in the last few competitions
- 2016 Fiji Woman’s Pro Fiji – 3rd place
- 2015 Swatch Woman’s Pro USA- 13th place
- 2014 Surf ‘n’ Sea Pipeline Women’s Pro USA – 1st place
- 2009 Billabong ASP World Junior Championship Australia – 2nd place
- 2009 Rio Surf International in Rio de Janeiro – 3rd place

I first came to know about Bethany Hamilton in the movie soul surfer and I was really touched, inspired and encouraged by her strength and faith despite what happened. Not everyone who goes through what she has experienced will come out stronger and successful.
I am so glad to hear that she’s now carrying her second baby with Adam. They were my favorite team in their Amazing Race season. Although, they did not win the race, they really did a great job and most of all, they played clean the entire race.

She’s certainly a fighter and I am really happy she enjoys her family and her surfing. People who watch her biography Soul Surfer, can tell she is a gal that beat the odds to get to where she is now. I hope to keep an eye out for Bethany Hamilton as she is fun to follow.
